Kitchen Rack Tips

Ok, so you’d think that choosing a kitchen rack would be a simple enough job, right? Well for me it turned out to be surprisingly time consuming, not because I couldn’t find anything suitable for my kitchen, but because the choice of racks is so vast!

Of course it isn’t possible to have too much storage space in a kitchen, so add ding a kitchen rack not only improves the appearance of your kitchen but is also the perfect storage solution. From small traditional spice racks to large chrome ceiling racks, there is a rack to suit every size and style of kitchen.

Pot racks are very popular as they not only look stylish but are practical too. They are a great way to organize your kitchen, making it easy to find exactly the right size of pan or pot needed for cooking. Pot racks are available in a variety of materials, most often chrome, wood or steel and the choice will depend on your style of kitchen. Everything from pots, pans, chopping boards and even food can be hung from a ceiling kitchen rack.

Traditional farmhouse kitchens usually have ceiling pan racks, but of course to have a ceiling rack you need to have a fairly high ceiling. Where space is more limited wall hung racks are an option and are often easier to mount. A matching utensils rack, with spoons and accessories held by butchers hooks or magnets, complements the look and can be used to organize a variety of utensils or even as a towel rail.

Bakers racks are a type of kitchen rack which work well for both storage and display. Originally used to cool pies on open shelves, bakers racks now provide an attractive alternative to traditional shelving.

A standard bakers rack will have open shelves at the top which sit above a wooden counter and with drawers underneath. Most bakers kitchen racks are highly ornamental and made of wrought iron, which has been finished with a patina to give an aged effect. The more decorative styles are a work or art in themselves. However it is possible to find more plain bakers racks that are better suited to a modern kitchen.

Wine racks are another type of kitchen rack which is both useful an decorative. Although many modern kitchens will have a wine rack built into the kitchen design, it is possible to buy wine racks that can be set on the worktop, or larger freestanding ones. These come in so many different styles and sizes that it is easy to find one to match your exact needs.

Perhaps the most widely used kitchen rack of all is the humble spice rack. Found in homes everywhere, they are great for organizing and storing spices. Modern versions have canisters held in place by magnets but it is possible to find wooden ones, revolving ones and even art deco ones. Good spice racks of whatever style, will keep spices and condiments fresh and full of flavor.
